Heather Cox Richardson’s news of the day: March 26, 2021…
GA governor Brian Kemp is a white man who only barely won his 2018 race against black woman Stacy Abrams by suppressing the GA vote.
On Thursday, March 25, he signed the new GA voter suppression law behind closed doors, on camera with 6 white men, under a painting of a slave plantation. Meanwhile, black female GA Rep Park Cannon was arrested and dragged away for knocking on his door.
For details of how bad voter suppression got to be in 1858, and could get to be again, see:

You’ll enjoy the commentary from Heather’s readers. Lots of good info about goals of progressives/liberals/Democrats vs the similar but more moderate goals of most US voters. Also, actions you can take to support the “For The People Act”.
I loved this comment:
Today’s Republican party is “losing votes for the same reason that people stop eating at a diner that smells of rotting fish, and they’re trying to prop up their business by setting fire to all the other restaurants in town.” So true!
Support the “For the People Act”, even if it requires deleting or reforming the filibuster. Here’s a link that makes it really easy to automatically email both of your senators about it:

Or call, or write a letter. Here’s contact info for your senators, regardless of where you live:
